Indoor Sports
Overview
The Indoor Sports Centre will be a vibrant hub for both student recreation and community engagement, while also serving as a dedicated educational space for the university’s leisure and sports-related programs. The current preferred location for this two-level facility is South of East Quad and North of the Lower House.
This project aims to deliver the most sustainable outcome possible, we were able to apply, for the first time, the EU Level(s) Framework to guide and monitor the design process. The framework helped embed life cycle thinking, ensuring that key objectives were addressed, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting resource-efficient and circular material life cycles, optimising water use, creating healthy and comfortable spaces, enhancing resilience and adaptability, achieving optimal life cycle cost and value, and supporting biodiversity. To ensure these objectives were met in practice, we set ambitious targets for operational energy, embodied carbon, and waste reduction, and tracked progress through regular Design Team reporting aligned with the Level(s) indicators
