During construction Rendering of completed build
The new HSE Primary Care Centre is now fully operational at Grangegorman.
The Primary Care Centre forms the core of the HSE area on the Grangegorman site. Part new build, part refurbishment of the protected Laundry building, the facility will accommodate the Grangegorman and Cabra East primary care teams along with a range of other health and social care network services for the North West Inner City. The new structure, comprising of three stories as per the Grangegorman Planning Scheme, will provide GP suites and Public Nursing, facilities for Ophthalmology and Occupational Therapy as well as a full Audiology suite, including the Bone Anchoring Hearing Aid (BAHA) programme and hearing aid repairs.
Conveniently located near the North Circular Road entrance, the Primary Care Centre will be easily accessible for both staff and visitors. There will also be a new pedestrian access on Grangegorman Upper. The Masterplan design of the HSE area has been specifically chosen to ensure a greater degree of privacy and security for everyone involved.

Historic Use
The Original building was designed in 1894 and used as a laundry building for the former St Brendan’s mental hospital up until the mid-1980’s. Subsequently the building was used for occupational therapy until the early 2000’s but gradually fell into disuse as the population of patients in St. Brendan’s declined.
The GDA was asked by the HSE to investigate restoration and re-use of the protected structure in 2015. A brief for a new Primary Care Centre was devised and restoration works and new build planning begun.
Adjacencies
The Primary Care Centre resides withing the Grangegorman site along Ivy Avenue to the north of the Central Quad and to the immediate West of the new Educate Together Primary School.
The Primary Care Centre, together with the Phoenix Centre are the first elements of the HSE’s integrated health car village which will occupy much of the norther area of Grangegorman site.
Current access to the PCC is from Grangegorman upper, with carparking for visitors available off the North Circular Road. In mid-2023 access to the PCC will open up with shared routing into Grangegorman with the new Primary school. GDA, together with stakeholders are also working on enhancing public spaces, including an additional play space inside Grangegorman.
